It's been a while since I last posted about my Stone Circle scene as its sort of been "on hold" while I've been working on my research study report for the Design Research 2 module (which is due this Friday). My research assignment is very close to being finished, so I've gotten back to work on my scene this week.
Since my last post, I have added grass and applied a simple wind effect to the grass and leaves in the trees, so that they sway around slightly. Hopefully this adds more realism and life to the scene. Today I have made a stone altar which will sit in the middle of the stone circle. I actually textured the altar in Substance Painter, which is quickly becoming a permanent feature of my workflow.
I modelled the altar in Maya, then took it into Mudbox where I created a highpoly, sculpted it and baked the normal map out, then I took the low poly with the normal applied into Substance Painter and created the texture. The texture features a rock underlayer, with markings that are inspired by Iron Age stone carvings, a subtle moss effect and blood, implying its use is for human sacrifice! I'm really happy with how the texture turned out and I'm finally getting the hang of Substance Painter.
Here's pictures of the scene and the stone altar:
